After years of yo-yo dieting, a friend suggested I try a low-carb way of life. I lost over 75 pounds in nine months and never looked back.

My desire to encourage women of all shapes and sizes to look and feel their best hadn’t changed at all, but my level of frustration with myself got bigger by the day. It went way beyond what my tape measure and bathroom scale reported. As a twenty-something, my fatigue was already awful; a flight of stairs would leave me ridiculously winded, and my joints were starting to pop and crackle in places I didn’t think they should be.

I knew there was a lighter, healthier version of myself that I could bring to the surface if I really tried.

So I did.

Hi There!

Wondering if the low-carb way of life is for you? Not yet sure if you can rethink the bread, pasta, cookies, cakes and croutons in your life? Tired of food cravings controlling you? (Listen, I get it. I still can’t let Teddy Grahams in the house lol).

Anyhoo, let’s talk.

How It All Started

Over 25 years ago, I worked as a plus-sized model with Ford modeling agency in Los Angeles. Back then I was anywhere between a dress size 14-18, and tried my best to stay cheerful and confident about my ever-expanding curves, especially in front of the camera. But contrary to what people say, pictures can lie. I was anything but cheerful or confident on the inside.

Not quite at my heaviest here, but definitely on my way. I tried almost every diet unicorn I could find and nothing gave me long-lasting results until I began eating low-carb.

Well, What Did You Do?

I tried diet pills and points-counting and juice cleanses and canned shakes and oil potions before bed (to name a few). At most, I’d lose 25 pounds, celebrate my victory with a super-sized fall off the wagon, gain it all back and then repeat the cycle.

I rode around on that cycle for several years until the day the doctor’s scale read 260. That was the first time in my life the number had edged closer to 300 than 200. I knew I had to get serious soon or risk far greater complications than an over-zealous muffin top.

A friend who’d experienced great weight loss results suggested I try a low-carb eating plan. After much procrastination, I finally decided to go all in. Let me tell you, it wasn’t an instant romance. It was pretty tough at first. Carbs had become a major part of my life. My plate seemed empty without them and my cravings were out of control in the beginning. But I hung in there.

Week one was the hardest. Week two got a little better. Before the end of week three, my cravings had pretty much disappeared. I was feeling so good by week four, I knew I’d be able to go the distance.

So, What Happened?

Nine months later I’d dropped over 75 pounds and five dress sizes. With only minor hiccups, (never said I was perfect lol) I’ve kept it off for over 14 years.

Today as a fifty-something woman, my low-carb lifestyle has done way more for me than help me slide on skinny jeans. I’ve learned about eating to manage low-energy levels, stress, inflammation in my body and much more.

I’m certainly not a medical professional, but I am passionate about feeling good and doing my part to live my best life at this age.

Why I Created This Blog

I’m here because I want to share with you the highs and lows of my journey. I want to share what’s worked for me, what hasn’t and what I’m still figuring out about this low-carb way of life. I’m definitely still lovin’ it. And as long as we’re here together, it’s my hope that I can inspire you to love it too.

Wishing you peace, happiness and wellness,
